The Applied Electronics Research Team (APERT) is a research group of DET. APERT is formed by teachers and researchers of the University of the Basque Country and all of them carry out their activities at the Faculty of Engineering of Bilbao. Expertise field of the researchers of this group is Reconfigurable Devices focused on industrial communication digital circuits. APERT researches on: digital communications reliability, in particular reliable Ethernet; industrial communications for Energy sector; and reconfigurable digital systems integrated on a single chip.

DISA focuses on areas such as industrial communication, industrial automation, robotics and advanced process control. DISA's activities range from basic and applied research work and application development for different industrial sectors.

The Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering (DISA – Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas y Automática) from the Faculty of Engineering of Gipuzkoa (ETSI), University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) is responsible for teaching graduate, and postgraduate courses and conducts its research in fields such as industrial automation, smart grids renewable energy, welding process control, Biomedical engineering, and non –invasive ambient intelligence, among others.
