The Institute of Medical Device Technology (IMT) was founded in July 2017 and focusses on issues of medical technology, the development of medical devices, and sophisticated biomedical actuation technology. At IMT devices, instruments, and procedures are developed, tested, and optimized while considering the complete product life cycle. Functional and lifetime tests of components, materials, user interfaces, and workflows are also possible in the specialized laboratories. A number of lab facilities are available for material testing and processing, robotics in medicine, mechatronic hardware, and surgical workflow simulation.

Activities of the Institute for Control Engineering of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Units (ISW) revolve around the development and application of automation, drive and control technology and the corresponding digital tools. The division in three departments „Control Technology", „Machine and Robotic Systems" and „Mechatronic Systems" reflects the variety of research topics. The ISW caters for research and development activities. This has led to successful cooperation with public and industrial project partners.

The Institute for System Dynamics profiles in linking sophisticated research with practical applications in the area of system dynamics and controls. Emphasis is put on the development and application of methods in system theory, simulation, control and optimization. The research concept of the ISYS aims for the practical implementation of theoretical results - mostly in cooperation with academic and industrial partners. The scopes of application are related to process technology and biology as well as mechatronics, traffic and medical engineering.
