The Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) will be the most advanced and powerful optical telescope on Earth. TMT is scheduled to begin scientific operations early next decade on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, and will enable astronomers to study objects in our own solar system, stars throughout our Milky Way and its neighboring galaxies, and forming galaxies at the very edge of the observable Universe, near the beginning of time. The TMT project is an international partnership among the California Institute of Technology, the University of California, the Association of Canadian Universities for Research in Astronomy, the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Department of Science and Technology of India.
