EtherCAT based systems for small
automation projects
(@ Birmingham)
|
Abstract |
EtherCAT is a powerful network for
large, high speed distributed systems.
However, this is not the only area where
the benefits of EtherCAT are realised.
OEMs
and System Integrators are increasingly
using EtherCAT to simply their designs
and reduce overall costs by implementing
EtherCAT. Two such examples are;
- Waste to Energy Project. The use of
Beckhoff embedded PCs and EtherCAT has
enabled a System Integrator to produce a
distributed, scalable control system to
meet specification at a fraction of the
cost of a traditional PLC control
solution.
- Vision recognition
system for medical components. By using
a Beckhoff Industrial PC and EtherCAT
I/O an OEM has integrated their vision
recognition software and control
requirements onto a single PC platform
reducing panel size, component count and
engineering time.

EtherCAT for Hydrodynamic Simulation
(@ Bristol)
|
Abstract |
HR Wallingford (HRW) has years of
experience in building wave generation
systems that realistically simulate sea
conditions. The latest Wavemakers are
multiple axis paddle units positioned to
simulate wave action on sea defences and
single axis paddle unit flumes which can
be used for Tsunami simulations.
Using EtherCAT enables HR Wallingford to
supply scalable systems from a single
paddle flume system to a 256 paddle,
fully synchronised system, controlled by
one Industrial PC. |
