Retrofit of a Gottlieb Arena Pinball with EtherCAT and TwinCAT 3
|
Abstract |
De Jaeger
Automation bvba makes a lot of
applications in .net and
plc-controllers. In that perspective it
is very interesting to have a one
environment that has .net and plc-code
in one project. This simplifies the cost
and management of the source code and
the version control. Mainly for this
reason it was for us very interesting to
discover the possibilities and
challenges from TwinCat3.1. However from
a management point of view it is always
a risk, to just follow all this new
technology. For that reason and also
many others we started a student project
to retrofit the PCB’s from a Gottlieb
arena pinball from 1985 with a
TwinCat3.1 controller with EtherCAT. It
looks quite simple however,… in my
presentation I’ll explain why we need
cycle times like 80 and 310
microseconds. And of course, it’s a lot
of fun and nostalgic to play on an old
pinball! |

Patrick De Jaeger worked after his
studies in different automotive
companies mostly in and around the Volvo
Cars factory in Ghent. In the year 2000
he started his own company with special
focus on industrial software development
in PLC/PC/database-combinations. After
years of growth and creating a lot of
production steering and traceability
solutions, custom made for companies
like Volvo Cars, CAT and JCI. He and his
team created standard software called
ProSuite. This software makes a link
between ERP like SAP, Baan, JDE,... to
different standard operator stations on
the work floor and to PLC's in the case
of testing stations or pick by light
stations. |
