The Electromagnetism and Telecommunication Department of the MONS University (Université de Mons) offers a wide spectrum of competences with about 25 people, most of them researchers. For more than 20 years the department possesses a strong background in optical fibre metrology and sensing. It is quite prolific in terms of publications, with several tens of publications per year in international journals and conferences. The department is member of the material cluster of UMONS faculty, which is optimal with respect to fiber sensing with aspects ranging from mechanics and material sciences to (bio)chemistry.
