Integration of EtherCAT in advanced Test
Systems – Solutions and Challenges |
Abstract |
The technological progress in the industry of the
mobile machinery resulted in rapidly increasing complexity of their
electronic control units (ECU), what imposes the need for advanced
testing methods. Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation (HIL) aims to cope with
these requirements. Real-time capable support of various bus and network
systems is of essential importance for HIL simulation. EtherCAT-support
is particularly required for sensor, actuator and test-bench connections.
To enable automated testing of EtherCAT ECUs using the HIL technology,
various challenges have to be mastered and appropriate solutions must be
found. |

Frank Schuette studied Electrical Engineering at the
University of Paderborn and got his PhD in the field of electrical
drives in 2002.
Since more than 12 years he’s employed at dSPACE and responsible for
engineering services related to Rapid Prototyping, Production Code
Generation and Virtual ECU Testing. Due to several projects concerning
the test bench integration of dSPACE systems, he got experience in
fieldbus technology and EtherCAT.
