ISIS Neutron and Muon Source is a world-leading centre for research at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Oxford. The ISIS suite of neutron and muon instruments give unique insights into the properties of materials on the atomic scale. The UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UK ATC) is the national centre for astronomical technology. UK ATC design and build instruments for many of the world's major telescopes. UK ATC also project-manage UK and international collaborations. UK ATC scientists carry out observational and theoretical research into fundamental questions such as the origins of planets and of galaxies.
