The Department of Physics at the University of Tasmania engages in a variety of learning, teaching, and research activities, with a research focus on geophysics and astronomy/astrophysics. With a long history in astronomy, the department operates a number of optical and radio telescopes, including a continent-wide array of large-aperture parabolic radio telescopes, which are used for astronomy research, spacecraft and satellite tracking, launch support, and learning and teaching.
